There's something askew when a singer who sings in "a far left mentality of workers' rights and union avocation" (whatever that is, it sounds pretty elitist) is described as "a hero to the working class 'salt of the earth'" and a folk singer rather than a country singer who sings songs that the real working class 'salt of the earth' listen to. If you're interested in books, I suggest you read Tex Sample's book White Soul. He has a respect for the right-wing conservative salt of the earth working class that goes beyond the elitist patronizing we-know-what's-best-for-you message of some music that describes itself self-consciously as folk music. And yes there's a reason many working class people tend to be conservative. As the French say, plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose. Kathy Skaggs P. O.
